SAINT JOHN'S FORT - MALACCA (MELAKA)

ST. JOHN'S FORT

SOUTH OF MALAYSIA

The Saint John's Fort (also known as Fort St. John) was built during the Dutch occupation of Melaka in the 18th century on St. John's Hill. Now a popular tourist spot, this fort was used to defend attacks from within the town. It was also a private Portuguese chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist. This place was preserved during the British rule although what remains today are a few walls and the cannon emplacements of the fort.
