The Saint John's Fort (also
known as Fort St. John) was built during the Dutch
occupation of Melaka in the 18th
century on St. John's Hill. Now a popular tourist spot,
this fort was used to defend attacks from within the
town. It was also a private Portuguese chapel dedicated
to St. John the Baptist. This place was preserved during
the British rule although what remains today are a few
walls and the cannon emplacements of the fort.
