ST. PETER'S CHURCH - MALACCA (MELAKA)

SAINT PETER'S CHURCH

SOUTH OF MALAYSIA

St. Peter's Church in Melaka was built in the early 1700s by descendants of the Portuguese settlers who have since called this place their home. This place of worship is located along Jalan Bendahara and it has specially designed stained-glass windows, old tombstones and an unique bell cast in Goa.

The Saint Peter's Church is usually packed with devotes during the Good Friday and Easter Sunday celebrations and the San Pedro feast to honor the patron saint of the fishing community is held here every year in the month of June and Catholics from all over Malaysia come here to celebrate these joyous occasions. Up till now, the grand Portuguese church in Macau is still associated with this oldest functioning Catholic church in Malaysia.
