Fort Cornwallis in PenangLocated on Light Street (Lebuh Light), Fort Cornwallis was built on the site of Captain Francis Light's historic landing in 1786. Originally a wooden stockade when he first stepped onto this island, it was replaced by a concrete structure built by convict labor in 1804. At the fortifications of Fort Cornwallis stand several cannons and the famous Dutch cannon, believed to have fertility powers, was presented to the Sultan of Johor by the Dutch is called the Sri Rembau Cannon which finally found its way to Penang after being looted by the Portuguese. The popularity of this attraction is seen by the high number of tourists buses parked on the Esplanade.
