The Islamic Museum at Lebuh
Armenian (Armenian Street) is located on a huge bungalow
building which was previously known as the Syed Alatas
Mansion. This tourist attraction was refurbished in 1993
by famous Malaysian and French conservators. Before the
renovation work, this heritage building was the
site of collection yard used by scrap dealers.
Going
back in history, Syed Mohamed Alatas was a well known
and rich Achehnese trader of Arab descent who occupied
this place of interest with his first Malay wife and
then with his second wife who Photo: Islamic Museum was the daughter of the
famous Khoo clan in Penang. The Armenian Street district
is well known for some of the most beautiful Chinese
clan houses, art galleries and museums in Penang.
