Located on Penang Road, KOMTAR
(Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak), a prominent Penang landmark, houses
the local government departments,
commercial offices, departmental stores, shops and restaurants.
Fast food chains such as Kentucky Fried Chicken and
McDonald's are found here in Komtar too. Its 65-storey tower dominates the city's
skyline and tourist will be able to do their shopping
for gifts and souvenirs in this complex. A tourist
information centre can also be found in here.
This well known
place of interest in Penang also contains theatres, squash
courts and a geodesic dome which serves as a
multipurpose hall. The 55th floor offers a panoramic
view of the city and on clear days, the distant Gunung
Jerai or Kedah Peak in Kedah is visible on the mainland.
During the weekends, this place is packed with
shoppers and tourists. Located next to Komtar is
Prangin Mall which is also another huge shopping
complex.
