The Penang Museum and Art Gallery in Penang, MalaysiaBuilt in 1821, located on Farquhar Street, the Penang Museum houses a fine collection of old photographs, old maps, charts and other historical relics. Most of the exhibits comes with detailed explanations so that visitors are able to fully understand the significant of the items. Other interesting exhibits at this popular tourist attraction at the Georgetown area include ancient Malay weapons such as the Malay daggers (Keris), Straits Chinese furniture, embroidery, costumes and paintings of old Penang.

 

The Art Gallery on the first floor displays the works of Malaysian artists and is the venue for special exhibitions. The most recognizable display here is the statue of Francis Light which graces the grounds in front of the building. Francis Light is the famous founder of Penang. This museum is the best place to to learn more about Penang Museum  the history of Penang and understand the culture of the Penang people. Some visitors use this museum as a travel guide to learn as much about Penang as possible before kicking off their journey in Penang.
