Penang Hill (Bukit Bendera) in PenangPenang Hill, locally known as Bukit Bendera, is Malaysia's first hill station. Penang Hill is 830 meters (2730 feet) above sea level, visitors can ascend to the top by either hiking up from Jalan Air Terjun or by traveling in the funicular railway which has been operational since 1922. Apart from the cool, refreshing climate and the fantastic view at the summit makes, this a well known tourist spot is one of the many famous places of interest in Penang. Visitors can also view the picturesque bungalows, a beautiful flower garden and a bird park on this hill. who wants to explore the whole of the hill. Tourists will definitely enjoy the cool tranquil atmosphere here compared to the general hot and humid conditions in Malaysia.

 

There are bungalows for rent and a hotel for those who want to stay for more than one day. Refreshments and snacks are sold at a convenient tea kiosk located on top of the hill and souvenirs such as postcards and local handicrafts are also easily available. There is even a post office on the hill to provide postal services for tourists. There is a good walking trail up the hill. It takes four hours to reach the top and is recommended only for the more energetic explorers. The jungle trails begins at the 'moongate' at Jalan Air Terjun which is approximately 300 meters from the entrance of the Penang Botanical Gardens.
