Snake Temple in PenangThis famous tourist attraction of the Snake Temple, built in 1850 and dedicated to the deity, Chor Soo Kong, is located 3.2 kilometers from the Penang International Airport and this place of worship is packed with devotees during the Chinese New Year celebrations. It is a sanctuary for pit-vipers which are said to be the 'servants' of the deity.

 

These venomous snakes, seen coiled round the pillars, beams and potted plants within the temple are believed to be rendered harmless by the smoke of the burning incense and this unique temple is the only one of its kind in Penang whereby tourists can even take photographs together with the snakes. The main attraction here is Photo: Snake Temple                definitely the snakes which come here on their own from nearby jungle surrounding the temple. You will also get to witness devotees placing fresh eggs near the snakes as a offering to the snakes.
