Sri Mariamman Temple in PenangSri Mariamman Temple in Penang is another historic place of worship is located on Queen Street. Built in 1883, this famous Hindu temple features fascinating sculptures of gods, goddesses and Hindu deities over its main entrance and on its facade. Housed within its ornately decorated interior is the priceless statue of Lord Subramaniam embellished with gold, silver, diamonds and emeralds and this tourist attraction has many interesting and colorful sculptures on its walls which are a delight to shutterbugs.

 

The statue figures prominently in the annual Thaipusam festival when it is borne on a silver chariot through the city streets to the temple at Waterfall Road and has become one of the biggest celebrations in the country. The carvings seen on the walls of the Sri Mariamman Temple is very unique and Sri Mariamman Temple   provides tourists excellent opportunity to take some very great photos.
