KUALA KANGSAR - PERAK

KUALA KANGSAR

NORTH OF MALAYSIA

Kuala Kangsar, the royal town of Perak, is located 60km north of Ipoh. Located here is the Kuala Kangsar Malay College, an educational institution which has produced many of the country's top leaders. Established just at the turn of the century, it was the earliest residential school in Malaysia. Standing beside the Sultan's palace is the Royal Museum, a unique wooden building built without using a single nail which subsequently became a famous tourist attraction.

At the jetty in Kuala Kangsar, boat owners operate a river safari down the Perak River. Kuala Kangsar is famous for its local pottery known as the 'labu sayong' (black ceramic pottery) which keeps drinking water cool and a cake known as the kuih labu (pumpkin cakes wrapped in banana leaves) which is the town's specialty. The pride of Kuala Kangsar is the Ubudiah Mosque which was officially opened in 1917 and is now a major landmark in Perak.
