Taiping, which means Eternal Peace, is one of Malaysia's oldest towns and also a popular attraction in Perak. Taiping was formerly known as Larut and the scene of bloody feuds between rival Chinese miners who came from different districts in China. The British renamed the town after putting an end to the feuding.

 

Located 95 kilometers north of Ipoh, Taiping was the first state in the country to have its own lake gardens, zoo and the location of the famous Taiping Museum. Strolling along the Taiping Lake Gardens has been a favorite pastime of the people here and the beautiful lake and its water theme park are also crowd pullers. Not too far away is the Taiping Zoo which its different species of exotic animals and birds.
