The royal town of Arau is
located 10 kilometers from Kangar, on the Peninsula's main
railway route extending northwards into Thailand. The
main tourist attraction here is the imposing Istana Arau or
the Royal Palace, which boasts of classic architecture and
the Royal Mosque. This grand structure is the pride of
this pleasant town which has a relaxing atmosphere
perfect for a quite weekend getaway.
Arau is also the disembarkation
point for visitors traveling by rail from Kuala Lumpur
to Langkawi. From Arau, taxis to Kuala Perlis, the point
of departure by ferry to Langkawi, are available and
this is one of the favorites taken by by tourists.
