SIPADAN ISLAND - SABAH

SIPADAN ISLAND (PULAU SIPADAN)

EAST MALAYSIA

For the true diving enthusiast, the island of Sipadan, located off the east coast of Sabah, needs no introduction. This famous tourist attraction is only a sixty minutes boat ride from Semporna and the island is sited in the Celebes Sea. Sipadan Island (also known as Pulau Sipadan) is praised by the internationally renowned diver and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau as one of the best diving spots in  the world. Sipadan Island is the only oceanic island (meaning not connected to the continental shelf) in Malaysia rising 2,000 feet (600 meters) on a limestone pinnacle that 'mushrooms' out near the surface. This famous diving island in Sabah is frequented by scuba divers throughout the year.

Its main attraction here is that the island is crowned with a coral reef over five kilometers in circumference and it was formed by an undersea volcanic eruption million of years ago. However, the main reason why this place is considered as the best beach dive in the world is simply because at its northern tip, the sea suddenly drops 850 meters. Also found here at one of Sabah's most famous places of interest is an underwater limestone cave with amazing stalactites and stalagmites and schools of barracuda, jacks, sharks, tuna and turtles. The abundant and stunning marine life will thrill and amaze you totally at this diving paradise. So, get off your chair and head to the Sipadan Island in Sabah for a great scuba diving adventure.
