The busy town of Tambunan in Sabah offers visitors a beautiful view of the countryside which is full of padi fields and rolling hills. Photographing opportunities are plenty at this place of interest in Sabah and make sure you have your digital camera with you when traveling to this region of Malaysia. Located about ninety minutes away by road transportation from Kota Kinabalu, the famous attraction here is the Lihing or rice wine. If you are in Keningau, then this unique town is only about fifty kilometers away.

 

Once you step foot into this agricultural service town, one thing you notice is that the hills around this town are filled with bamboo trees due to the colonial edict that for every bamboo tree that is being chopped down, the farmer has to replace it by planting twenty bamboo shoots. This town is also the first settlement across the huge Crocker Range. Interesting tourist attractions here include the Handicraft Centre which sells local handicraft and the weekly tamu which is an open market held every Sunday selling foodstuff to souvenirs. For the adventurous travelers, you can hire jeeps to take you to the amazing Mawar Waterfall which is locally known as the Air Terjun Mawar.
