The famous Kuching town, nestled on the banks of the
Sarawak River and as the capital city of Sarawak, is
known to retain the
old-world charm of its romantic past. The Kuching River is the focal point
of the town and features a graceful, European-style
esplanade known as the Kuching Waterfront with excellent
views across to the Astana, a palace built by Rajah
Charles Brooke and Fort Margherita which was built to

Sarawak Museum, Islamic Museum, Cat Museum, Chinese
History Museum and Timber Museum.
For shopping in Kuching, tourists can
go to Wisma Saberkas, Sarawak Plaza, Wisma Hopoh, Wisma
Phoenix, Kuching Plaza, Main Bazaar and the Sunday
Market. Another tourist attraction is the Tua Pek Kong
Temple, the oldest place of worship for the Chinese
while the Sarawak State Mosque is known for its gilded cupolas.
