Sarawak's extensive river system makes a trip to the central region as easy as it is fascinating. Sibu, built on  the banks of the Rajang River, is the main gateway to the Rejang Basin and a good starting point for river cruises to the inland towns. This is the best place for tourist to buy local native handicrafts and pottery and the tourists' favorites include bean work, rattan baskets, wood carvings and woven textiles.

 

Longhouses, villages and small towns dot the riverbanks of this famous tourist town in Sarawak whereby specially organized visits to these more remote longhouses can be arranged through a guide in the nearest town. For those who pastime is eating, then do not waste this opportunity by trying Sarawak's local food such as kang muan mee which is a noodle type dish, kong pian which is a special type of cookie and million, a type of wild fern. For the meat eaters, you have a choice of fresh wild boar meat and venison at this tourist attraction town in Sarawak.
