KUALA SELANGOR

MALAYSIA

Kuala Selangor, a coastal town located about 64 kilometers northwest of Kuala Lumpur, is the ideal travel destination for those seeking a blend of history, local flavor, nature and wildlife. The drive itself to this attraction in Selangor is interesting as it passes through coconut, cocoa, rubber, oil palm and banana plantations and rustic villages whereby tourists can even stop halfway to savor local fruits such as durian and rambutans and the delicious local food. When you are on the road, try to catch hold of a Selangor road map to give you a smooth journey.

Once a thriving port, Kuala Selangor was the first state capital of Selangor as it used to be the seat of the government. Overlooking the town is Bukit Melawati, the highest point in the area which is the site of the 200-year-old Fort Altingsburg built by the Dutch, an old lighthouse and the official residence of the District Officer. These are the main attractions in Kuala Selangor which has mesmerized its visitors time and time again. Panoramic views of the Straits of Malacca and surroundings can be enjoyed. It was from this vantage spot that the Dutch surveyed the surrounding countryside before capturing it in 1974. In the vicinity is a royal mausoleum where three past Sultans of Selangor are buried but the most interesting discovery here is the fireflies in Kampung Kuantan which lights up the mangroves on the riverbank at night. Visitors too can take a stroll at this place of interest through the beautiful nature park or visit the bird sanctuary.
