Kuala Terengganu is a very important area for its fishing activities and this town is also the centre of cultural attractions. It is easy to get around since there is a good transportation system and it is worth exploring for its many colorful sights of a semi-urban environment. Using a city map of Kuala Terengganu will even make your sightseeing tour much easier. Oil earnings have changed this fishing town to a modern city. The day-to-day activities of this once famous fishing town offer plenty of photographic opportunities and shutterbugs will surely enjoy this place. There are many tourists attractions here in this town and one of the more famous attractions is located at Jalan Losong Ferry which is the Terengganu State Museum Complex (Kompleks Muzium Negeri Terengganu) which is built according to traditional Terengganu architecture and it is made up of a main museum, botanic garden, fisheries museum, four traditional palaces and maritime museum. Exhibits of various ancient artifacts can be seen and the traditional fishing tools displayed here are popular with the tourists. The crowds' favorite is the huge Malay sailing vessel.

 

The Bukit Puteri (Princess Hill) located at Jalan Kota allows visitors to have a breathtaking view of the town and it was built in 1830 and was used as a fortress up to 1876. Several cannons, a flagpole and a large bell is all that is remained today. Another attraction near Bukit Puteri is the Istana Maziah which is used as the venue for royal functions such as birthdays and weddings, conferment of titles and the welcoming of dignitaries. The view from Bukit Puteri is just spectacular. Another place of interest is the Zainal Abidin Mosque. For those who love shopping, then you must not miss the Central Market (Pasar Payang) whereby cheap local produce and traditional handicrafts are all being sold here.

 

Another place to buy souvenirs is at Desa Kraft (used to be called Usaha Desa) on Jalan Bandar whereby the most popular item is the wayang kulit (shadow play) puppets which are excellent items to decorate your living room besides the usual batik T-shirts and wood carvings. The city beach of Pantai Batu Buruk has incredible scenery. A day trip to Pulau Duyung (Duyung Island) is also worthwhile because it is here that you will be able to witness the traditional method of making boat. This island is linked by bridge from Kuala Terengganu and craftsmen on this island are well known for their ability to make high quality boats. Kuala Terengganu is also a good place to learn more about the Malay culture and also to eat some delicious Malay dishes. For those who wants to try authentic Chinese cuisine, then visit the Chinatown at Jalan Bandar to fill up your empty stomach after a fulfilling day of visiting all the main places of interest in Kuala Terengganu.
