Before going
trekking, it is important for trekkers to know
as much as possible of the environmental issues.
Keeping the environment clean and intact is
vital as it will ensure its survival. The main
thing for trekkers to know is to leave only
footprints and take only photographs while they
are up there trekking. Try to keep the place as
natural and untouched as possible.
Recent developments
along the trekking trails have been a major
concern to both the environmentalists and
locals. Because of the increased in the numbers
of teahouses along the trekking trails,
indirectly it also increased the demand for wood and fuel which has led to
deforestation. Another problem that comes with
this is the amount of waste too has gone up but
without the proper mechanism for disposal, it
has led to some of the popular trails both
unsightly and unhealthy which then leads to
major health issues. To change this unwanted
incident, increased awareness on the part of
trekkers and the local people is needed.
Messages calling for a more environmentally
sound trekking needs to be passed along to all
that is concerned at a faster pace and in an
efficient manner.
Among the rules that
ought to be followed for a more vigilant
trekking are make sure that the trekking agency
supplies enough kerosene or gas for cooking,
throw away biodegradable waste properly and
carry non-biodegradable waste out or dump them
in properly constructed waste pit and remember
to keep the campsites clean and ensure that the
toilet pits are appropriately filled in after
use.
