It is not a hidden secret that Nepal is a very safe country to go trekking although trekkers must always must sure that all basic rules are followed. Should you enrolled with a trekking agency, it is assumed that most contingencies are being handled by the agency staff. Always keep in mind that one could get lost or hurt and help may not be around you should you decide to go trekking alone by yourself.

It is advisable for trekkers to avoid trekking alone and it is better for trekkers to either trek with agencies or hire reliable and experienced guides if you are trekking in a smaller group. Women trekkers always have the choice of hiring women guides. To minimize your risk while trekking is to have a thorough planning, following the rules and realizing the limitations involved especially your own capability.

In the event of an accident, a short detailed message should be dispatched to a reliable organization or individual immediately for rescue operation. If communication facilities are not available, normal first aid principles should be applied until professional help arrives. Among the safety rules to follow are never trek alone by yourself, never show off your wealth during trekking, always keep personal belongings secure and within sight, remember to make arrangements for handling emergency situations before hand as in the case of to be safe first rather than to be sorry later and never forget to register your personal information and provide your trekking plan with your respective embassies.

It is always recommended to buy travel insurance policy that covers helicopter rescue cost as this will safe you a lot of money should an accident happened to you deep in the mountains. It is better to leave a copy of the insurance details with an agency in Kathmandu. Lastly, always choose only authorized government registered trekking agencies, guides and porters as they are both dependable and more experienced.
