Compared to the
treks in other parts of Nepal, the treks located
west of the country are very much different.
This area is both less developed and definitely
has fewer facilities available for trekkers.
Because of this, trekking here is classified as
a much more of an exploration trek and would be
trekkers must be prepared for minor delays and
some hardship. The best time to come here is
during the spring and autumn seasons which is
also the traditional trekking periods. This area
is not recommended for trekkers who wished for
an easy smooth flowing and hassle free trekking.
Another thing to
know is that it cost more to trek in this remote
parts of the west. The ethnic group of residents
seen in the northern parts of this area,
particularly in Dolpa, are of Tibetan origin.
Other groups which can be seen her also include
the Magars, Gurungs and the people of Hindu
caste origin. Leopard, Himalayan Tahr and Blue
sheep are among the wildlife found living here.
Dolpa, Simikot and
Lake Rara are the popular trekking area in this
region. Trekkers who favor trekking during
summer will find the northern parts suitable for
summer treks. Since this area has not been
developed, it is not catered for independent
trekkers while groups trekking must be fully
self sufficient. Trekkers are usually advised to
arrange their trek through a government
recognized trekking agency which are usually
known for their dependability.
