Malacanang Palace
(JP Laurel St, San Miguel, Manila), which sits
on the banks of the Pasig River, derives its
name from 'may lakan diyan' (there lives a
nobleman), referring to its builder Spanish
aristocrat Luis Rocha. From 1863, it was used
sequentially as the domicile of Spanish heads of
government, the Americans and the first
Philippine President, Manuel Quezon, in 1935 and
is now the official residence of the President
of Philippines.
