Located about
seventy kilometers southeast of Manila, Luzon in the
Laguna Province is where you can shoot the rapids
by canoe. After hiring a canoe for one or two
people, you will be paddled upriver to the falls
(a good place for a swim) by two banqueros and
then go rushing down the rapids and getting very wet on the way. At the last major waterfall,
you can ride on a bamboo raft after paying an
extra charge and this is definitely the place
for those seeking thrill and adventure travel and it is
not for the light hearted.
The final scenes of
the film 'Apocalypse Now' were shot along the river. The
water level is highest, and the rapids are at
their best, in August and September. The best
time to go is early in the morning before the
tourist hordes arrive, so spending the night in Pagsanjan is advisable so that you can arrive at
the perfect time to get a perfect ride.
