Athletics Gold Medal Winners in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

The 2008 Olympic Games athletics sports is among the most famous Olympic sport in Beijing. Romanian marathoner Constantina Tomescu snatched the gold in the women's marathon race with a huge lead over Catherine Ndereba of Kenya and Zhou Chunxiu of China.

On Day 10 of the Beijing Games, 2 golds were added to the American gold medal count from athletics. Stephanie Brown Trafton who won the title of 2008 IAAF Grand Prix at Eugene claimed the women's discus throw Olympic title. It was a great day for Panama as Irving Jahir Saladino Aranda won Panama its first Olympic gold in the men's long jump category. Khotso Mokoena of South Africa and Ibrahim Camejo of Cuba joined the national hero of Panama on the podium. The menís 400m hurdles title was claimed by American Angelo Taylor who managed to put off a strong challenge from team-mates Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson.

Day 11 of the Beijing Games saw another Russian athlete winning an Olympic gold medal when Andrey Silnov of Russia was victorious in the men's high jump by clearing 2.36m. Germaine Mason of Team GB won the silver and Russian Yaroslav Rybakov followed behind in third place. Estonian gold medalist in the 2008 Olympics is Gerd Kanter of Estonia who took the men's discus throw title by beating Polish Piotr Malachowski and Lithuanian Virgilijus Alekna. Jamaica again showed their track and field strength when Melaine Walker captured the women's 400m hurdles Olympic title. Finishing second was Melaine Walker of the United States while British Tasha Danvers got into Great Britainís list of Olympic medal winners by claiming a deserved bronze.
