Drive and St Andrew Road, it is here at City
Hall where many of Singapore's historic events
took place, including the surrender of the
Japanese to the British forces in 1945 and the
declaration of Singapore's independence by the
then Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew on the 9th
August 1965. Other attractions ranged around the
Padang include Victoria Concert Hall and
Theatre, Old Parliament House, St Andrew's
Cathedral and the Supreme Court.
This
northern bank of the Singapore River is famously
known as Singapore's colonial district with many
imposing structures built during British rule.
As one the most famous places of interest in
Singapore, your sightseeing tour at this tourist
area may take you one whole day just to admire
all its incredible buildings located here. On weekends, you may
be able to catch a game of cricket on the Padang
(Malay word meaning 'flat field') which is the city's
oldest untouched plot of land and it was used
since the 1830's for sport and Photo: The Padang recreational
