Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay in SingaporeOfficially opened on the 12th October 2002, Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is the national performing arts centre of Singapore. Regarded as Singapore's most unique structure, this tourist attraction sits on 6 hectares of main waterfront land by Marina Bay which is part of Singapore's civic district making up of many wonderful heritage, arts and entertainment facilities. Esplanade is also known as the durian, a tropical fruit, because its twin domes which are clad in glass and metallic sunshades looks very similar to it. The Concert Hall here can accommodate over one thousand and six hundred people and has incredible acoustics by world-renowned acoustician Russell Johnson of ARTEC Consultants Inc, USA which include reverberation chambers and an acoustic canopy that allows the  Photo: Esplanade in Singapore

hall to easily adapt to various music styles without a drop in sound quality.

 

The Esplanade also has a two thousand seat Theatre which covers four levels of traditional European opera houses whereby its unique horseshoe shape allows a more intimate setting between the audiences and the stage. There are also two main studios here which provide flexible space for small-scale performances and rehearsals. To cater for outdoor shows, there is the Outdoor Theatre. Another main attraction seen here is the Esplanade Mall which spans over three storeys whereby guests can enjoy an interesting entertainment, food and retail mix.

 

This place has since provide a wide range of interesting and exciting programmes catering to almost everybody whereby an extensive menu is designed for them to choose from with each having their own unique style of performances that include classical music, international dance and theatre productions, jazz and blues music, Klais pipe organ performances, monthly free concerts, morning concerts, new music and contemporary dance and free outdoor performances along the spectacular waterfront. This place of interest in Singapore has now become a famous landmark due to its unique durian design and is Singapore's cultural centre, hosting arts and musical performances all year round.
