 Katong town, located on East
Coast
Road and Joo Chiat Road, is well known as
a food haven among the locals and also a Malay
majority district . Also known as a Peranakan
(Baba and Nyonya)
enclave, it is a district that is rich in
Peranakan and Eurasian heritage and
architecture.
Many of the older Peranakans
homes, now seen standing back from the sea, were once
seaside villas and while other famous attractions here
include fine examples of Chinese shophouse
architecture. Wander along the grand East Coast Road for
a choice Joo Chiat Road in Katong of delectable local fare, including the
famous laksa dish, tasty local and fresh seafood and Peranakan cuisine and dishes which are hard to find
nowadays. This famous tourist area is a good place to
see and learn more about the Baba and Nyonya
culture.
