The Singapore
History Museum, located at 30
Merchant Road, #03-09/17 Riverside Point, has a new exhibition, Rivertales at Riverside Point (opposite Clarke
Quay). One of the greatest charms of Singapore
is its history and until today, Singapore has
not forgotten but has successfully managed to
preserve as much of that rich history as it can
which is shown on the Rivertales exhibition. This exhibition is specially presented
during the closure of its 116-year old Stamford
Road building for redevelopment until 2006. The
Singapore History Museum has not lost any
quality in the move to Riverside Point. Visitors
are given an interactive as well as many
documentaries and films to watch. The main
exhibition is named Rivertales and takes
visitors through the history of the island from
a 14th century settlement named Temasek until
today as a modern, international city.
Rivertales explore
the history of Singapore through developments
revolving around the Singapore River. There is
also the hourly screening of the museum's
12-minute short film called the 'The Old Man and
the River' which is a poetic exposition of the
Singapore River seen through the eyes of a
77-year old man, followed by a 3D 35-minute
visual display of 'The Singapore Story -
Overcoming the Odds' or one of the collection of
heritage documentaries. This exhibition is to be
moved back to Stamford Road when the Singapore
History Museum becomes part of the National
Museum of Singapore when it reopens in
