It is no open secret that our hands are exposed to undesirable elements, especially dust, almost every minute because we use our hands for almost anything such as washing at home, driving to work or typing a document at the office. Have clean and healthy hands are very important because they will likely to imply the type of person we are. Great looking nails will definitely create a good first impression. Dry skin usually leads to brittle and uneven nails. You hands can certainly do with some spa treatment when your cuticles start to curl. If your daily activities or work required you to use your hands, then it is time for you to give your overworked hands the care and pampering to nurture them back to health.

To remove dead skinThe first process to begin your hand therapy is through nail soaking. Add about three drops of lavender essential oil into a bowl of warm water. Lavender oil is preferred because it acts as a comforting antibacterial agent, helping to clean and disinfect nail beds. Then put the tips of your fingers into the water and make sure the water completely covered them for about five minutes. This method is carried out to help soften the cuticles and helps prepare the nails for grooming. Then the next step involves exfoliation and grooming of the hands to remove dead skin.                      Photo: Exfoliating the hands

Exfoliate your hands by scrubbing from the top of your hands to the fingers. Continue scrubbing to your nails and then around the cuticles. After that rinse your hands and using an emery board, file each nail. The best way to file your nails is to file from one side to the centre with one smooth movement and then do the same from the other side. Then push back the cuticles using an orange stick wrapped with something soft such as a cotton.

Because hands have fewer oil glands, therefore they are dry most of the time. To keep your hands well hydrated, you are recommended to use an intensive restoration lotion such as hemp or vitamin E. Always spread the lotion evenly by rubbing your hands together, whereby this step is sometimes known as a hydrating massage. To prevent your hands from being tired during this treatment, use your thumb to rub deeply in small circles all over your palm and also along the length of each finger. To put the icing on the cake, complete the manicure by putting a natural shine on your nails by using a buffing file or block. This technique requires you to hold the buffer between your fingers and thumb and try to curl the fingers of your other hand in towards your palm. Then by slowly extending one finger at a time and move the buffer in a back-and-forth motion across each nail. To optimize the end result of a long-lasting, polished shine, you should use a quick and smooth strokes.

Another method is using the overnight cuticle repair therapy. You can start with mixing one teaspoon of honey with a small portion of sunflower, wheat germ or olive oil. After evenly mixing the honey oil, dip your fingers into this mixture and massage the oil into the beds of your nails and cuticles. Then before going to sleep, cotton gloves are used to cover your hands and when you wake up the next morning, you will realized that this process aids in softening your dry and cracked cuticles.
