There are times
that you do not need a full-body mud treatment
but you still want to be able to acquire the
benefits of mud. To solve this problem, use mud packs. Mud pack is
cheaper compared to the full-body mud treatment
since you will only apply at the areas that is
required. It is placed directly on the problem
area such as the back, elbow, knee or wrist. The
Romans have used muds to cure wounds as early as
120 B.C. and the tradition is still being
followed up till today. Mud therapy is well
known in European spa clinics whereby it is used
to overcome arthritis and rheumatism, and also
to treat pulled muscle because the combination
of the chemical makeup of the mud and heat is
useful to cure problem spot.
A thick body mud
that does not run is needed when making mud
packs. To make mud packs, the first thing to do
is to fill a large bowl with boiled water. Then
fill a small heat-conducive bowl with the mud.
To warm the mud, put the small bowl of mud into
the large bowl of boiled water and stir the mud
slowly as it heats. Then place a medium sized
porous cloth on the table. Once the mud is hot
enough, scoop the mud and place it onto the
center of the cloth.
After that, mound it to about five
cm thick in the middle. Once this is done, fold
each corner of the cloth in on top of the mud to
the shape of a pack and your mud pack is ready
for treatment.
Put the mud pack
on areas that need healing with the thin and
porous area on your skin. If you wish, you can
cover the problem area with a towel to retain
the heat. Leave the pack for about thirty
minutes to enable the plant substances, minerals
and vitamins found in the mud to be absorbed by
the skin's surface into the body. This process
is known to clear metabolic pathways and improve
waste elimination. Other benefits include easing
aches and pains, and improving cell oxygenation
and nerve function.
