WAT CHIANG MAN - CHIANG MAI

CHIANG MAN TEMPLE

NORTH THAILAND

Located on Ratchaphakhinai Road, this is Chiang Mai's oldest temple and probably dates from 1296. This temple was the residence of King Mengrai, founder of Chiang Mai, and is noteworthy for a chedi supported by rows of elephantine buttresses and a small ancient Buddha image, Phra Kaeo Khao. Two famous Buddha images, Buddha Sila and Crystal Buddha can be found in this temple whereby the latter is believed to have the power to bring rain.
