LOEI - NORTHEAST THAILAND

LOEI - THAILAND

NORTHEAST OF THAILAND

A trifle off the beaten track, Loei is the region's westernmost province and thus has features in common with the northern region and it is usually used as a transfer point into more rural areas of the province. The landscape is one of high hills and mountains, and there is enormous climatic range, the province recording the country's highest and lowest temperatures.

Without doubt, the major attractions are scenic, notably parks of Phu Kradueng National Park, Phu Luang National Park and Phu Ruea National Park, all three being mountain areas with pines and other cool climate trees and abundant wildlife. The Phu Kradueng National Park encircles a bell-shaped mountain with exceptional view and known as a spring break destination, this park is packed with students during the school holidays whereby tents and A-frame huts can be rented. If you are visiting in June, head off to Dan Sai to witness the Spirit Festival whereby you are supposed to consume as much rice whisky as possible to get yourself drunk.
