This narrow coastal
province, directly south of Phetchaburi is best
known for its beach resort, Hua Hin, the
nation's oldest seaside vacation centre. First
coming into vogue in the 1920s as a royal summer
retreat, Hua Hin today offers modern luxury
accommodation while preserving much of its
traditional character as a classic beach
destination, including one of the country's
first and finest 18-hole golf courses and this
place is well liked by visitors. Located at the
north of Prachuap is the Khao Chong Krajok
(Mirror Tunnel Mountain) whereby the view form a
wat at the top is extremely pleasant and monkeys
can be seen at almost all corners of the hill.
The natural coastal
environment is also well preserved at Khao Sam
Roi Yot (Mountain of 300 Peaks) National Park,
which contains a wide range of shoreline
habitats-limestone hills, marshes, mangroves,
coves and caves. The fauna is especially rich in
both resident and migratory birds, of which more
than 300 species are to be found. This sleepy
town usually lack much activities except at the
bay which is filled with colorful fishing boats
with the fishermen carrying out their daily
chores.
Indeed, Prachuap
Khiri Khan provides equal opportunity for
relaxing in the sun and for exploring a rich
natural setting, all within easy distance from
Bangkok. Tourists can also enjoy the tranquil
atmosphere by taking a stroll along the
waterfront promenade or to explore nearby scenic
Ao Manao (Lime Bay) and Ao Noi (Little Bay).
