BEN TRE

MEKONG RIVER DELTA REGION, VIETNAM

Ben Tre, one of Vietnam's southern province, is situated in the Mekong River Delta Region whereby its capital city is known as Ben Tre Town and this slow placed town is a good place for total relaxation with limited tourist attractions.

Ben Tre is wedged between two main branches of the Tien Giang River, which is itself one of the two main branches of the Mekong. The province's northern boundary is formed by the Tien Giang's main course while the province's southern boundary is formed by the Tien Giang's largest branch (which breaks away from the Tien Giang just upriver from Ben Tre province). The main ethnic group staying here is the Kinh and for those who are here, there are daily buses which go to Ho Chi Minh City.

Famous for its coconut candy, also known as keo dua, Ben Tre is a slow twenty minutes ferry ride from Mytho. Located away from the main highway, it receives far fewer tourists than Mytho and makes a wonderful stop on a Mekong tour. With a limited number of hotels and restaurants facing the tiny Truc Giang Lake, it is the kind of town that gears you down to the languid pace of the delta and the most popular place of interest here is the Tan Vinh Islet which has excellent scenery.
